In the process of the process I've come across a few things I previously hadn't considered. Sometimes you miss a mountain, because you're staring at the ground. Right? Take for instance, the incredible clarity and incisive expression of these lyrics.
"INTUITION"
by John Lennon
My intentions are good, I use my intuition
It takes me for a ride
But I never understood other people's superstitions
It seemed like suicide
As I play the game of life
I try to make it better each and every day
And when I struggle in the night
The magic of the music seems to light the way
Intuition takes me there
Intuition takes me everywhere
Well my instincts are fine
I had to learn to use them in order to survive
And time after time confirmed an old suspicion
It's good to be alive
And when I'm deep down and out and lose communication
With nothing left to say
It's then I realize it's only a condition
Of seeing things that way
Intuition takes me there
Intuition takes me anywhere

"LIVING WELL IS THE BEST REVENGE"
That- my friends, is the Absolute truth. George Herbert was 100% correct.

ALL THIS AND THERE'S THE WAR, TOO
"Apparently Rolling Stone is hemorrhaging, I mean hemorrhaging money, and it's only being kept alive because it's Jann Wenner's pet project and because Men's Health is doing so well, all that money goes back into Rolling Stone"- Mark Prindle- 2007
"Rolling Stone Magazine, another fabulous institution, we won't let those institutions ruin us!"- 2005
"In the future rock n roll will become whatever we let it become".- John Lennon- 1970
And so, here we are in 2007 (though its something like 9050 on the Jewish Calendar [and since theyre the chosen people, why dont we follow their numbers]), and some childish people who somehow become influential and powerful are stupider and sadder than ever.
Rolling Stone was founded by Jann Wenner. Among its many crimes against the music it alleges to celebrate (Kids In The Hall reference), the firing of Lester Bangs, the dismissal of The Velvet Underground, the hostility towards the Stooges, reducing all of my generation down to boring ol Kurt Cobain's depressionisms, and a few years back literally copping every single content and formatting idea from Q.
Jann Wenner is also a big wheel at that GREAT rock n roll hall of shame. I've done a few posts previously detailing who they havent inducted, theres plenty of info on the web about the record company politics about who gets in, (ok, one more time, no Stooges or Troggs but yes Fleetwood Mac & David Crosby???) not to mention a lot of it has to do with---->
Jann! At some point around 1968, Our Man in San Fran decided that HE is rock n roll (despite never having created anything) and his definition of who is and who isnt of whats great and what isnt stands sadly to this day. Even though the public has largely abandoned his idiotic confines. Even though disco, heavy metal and most importantly punk blew his favorites to bits. Even though he has essentially ignored all music made after 1974 (except for some rap to prove he loves negroes).
So yes, Jann found out that last year someone nominated the Monkees for the HALL. Jann is attempting to enforce some kinda 1919 Black Sox permanent ban on the boys. Cuz the rolling stones (for instance) allowed themselves to be groomed and primped by a manager, allowed their albums to get fucked up by the record company, hopped around cultural trends they did not originate for as long as they could, totally copped the beatles, oh and in 1964 when they werent raking int he $$$ did a fucking RICE KRISPIES commercial! Cuz bob dylan has...(do i really need to detail dylans prostitution of himself? we all know about his englebert humperdinck-like need to devalue and disgrace his talents, do what he's told, and absolutely follow the crowd [even though he might fuss and complain about it]) well you get the idea.
the point is the monkees are as authentic or talented as bob, mick, jack white or gloria gaynor or rob halford. which means plenty talented. And kinda fulla showbiz bullshit. just a question of what yr willing to accept. and I accept the boys with open arms. cuz their songs, presentation, content and ideas were stunning. They were and are true originals. Thier music holds up much better through the decades than some of the accepted "legends" or "genuises" journalists and fans alike feel obligated to champion.
So, while i normally dont care about the R&RHOS, I went ahead and signed a petition to LET THE MONKEES IN! Their hall of fame isnt the mark of integrity. it shouldnt be a building to honor Jann's grudges. leadbelly was a prostitute. his version of goodnight irene was good though. if you really have integrity yr someone like Ian Mackeye, Mirah, Jello, Greg Ginn etc and work totally outside the system. Otherwise, as they said in Wall Street, you cant get a little bit pregnant.
Jann Wenner and his mag arent rock and roll. We are as important to rock and roll as Keith Richards or anyone else. We're (the audience, the people, whoever) have done more for rock n roll than Jann has. He cant create. All he can do is react. His judgement is a joke.
You know, one final thought- the public vots with their feet and the monkees have sold 65 million albums. thats more people than have bought rolling stone magazine and david crosby or grateful dead records combined. power to the people who actually listen to music to decide what their music and attitudes and loves should reflect.

Simple
The Republican Party of Arkansas, which was beaten decisively in last year’s election, needs to dedicate itself to running next time on an anti-tax, pro-highway and pro-education agenda, its new chairman said.
Bryant businessman Dennis Milligan also said the party faithful need to run for more local offices.
Milligan said former Gov. Mike Huckabee appointed many Republicans to the state’s boards and commission during the past decade, and they would be excellent candidates for local government offices, such as prosecuting attorney, sheriff and quorum court or city council members.
“If you take care of the pennies, the dollars will take care of themselves,” said Milligan, who also is chairman of the Saline County Republican Party. “If you develop a good solid county Republican foundation, then the top is going to take care of itself.”
Milligan promises that under his leadership the party will be active statewide.
“We are not just going to be sitting here in the city of Little Rock and hoping the best for Boone County, Columbia County, Benton County or Desha County,” he said.
The GOP’s State Committee promoted Milligan from treasurer to chairman on May 19 to succeed Sen. Gilbert Baker of Conway. He said the party hasn’t focused enough “on getting the candidates to step forward to run.”
“I am very proud of what we have accomplished, but anything can be improved,” said the 49-year-old owner of Water Treatment Services Inc. who attends The Church at Rock Creek in Little Rock. Huckabee attends the same church.
Last November, the Republicans lost control of the governor and lieutenant governor offices and three legislative seats to the Democrats. The Democrats now control the state’s two U. S. Senate seats, three of four congressional seats, all seven state constitutional offices and 102 of 135 legislative seats.
But Milligan is a bit of an unknown in some political circles.
Senate Republican leader Denny Altes of Fort Smith, Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe and state Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney of Little Rock said they don’t know Milligan.
Ten days before Milligan was elected as the party chairman, a staunch supporter of former state Sen. Jim Holt of Springdale warned fellow conservatives that Milligan wants the party to run away from its core social issues.
“That philosophy is just as absurd and dangerous as [U. S. Senate Majority Leader ] Harry Reid’s public statement that we’ve already lost the war in Iraq,” retired Jonesboro teacher Debbie Pelley wrote in an email that she said was distributed to thousands of conservatives in Arkansas.
“Taking that stand will do nothing but guarantee defeat,” she declared.
Milligan said Pelley misinterpreted his remarks that he wants the party to focus more on fiscal issues. He said he doesn’t intend for the party to abandon social issues at all.
House Republican leader Johnny Key, R-Mountain Home, called Pelley’s e-mail “bogus.”
“To say that Dennis is not a social conservative is misreading his record, his campaigns that he has run, and it is taking a couple of statements where he said, ‘We need to focus on other issues,’ and totally twisting those statements and [making ] him look like something he is not,” he said.
In 2002 and 2004, Milligan narrowly lost the District 29 state House race to Rep. Janet Johnson, D-Bryant.
Pelley said the problem is the state GOP is run by businessmen who balk at financing the campaigns of candidates, such as Holt, who represent the values of the Republican base.
“I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but we got more votes than any other Republican who ran for statewide office last time,” Holt said.
Still, he said he wants to help Milligan be successful.
Last November, Holt lost the lieutenant governor’s race to former Clinton administration official Bill Halter by a margin of 57 percent to 43 percent, after falling short of knocking off U. S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln in 2004.
Milligan described himself as both a fiscal conservative and social conservative.
“I am a pro-life individual. I do believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. I am opposed to homosexuals adopting children. We are talking Dennis Milligan the man, and that isn’t necessarily the view expressed by every Republican, but those are my views.”
As a businessman, Milligan said he probably “brings to the table a little more concern about our taxes, our growth, our jobs.
I am just really caught up in trying to do and be part of anything that we can do to encourage job growth here, because obviously the more people we have working... the tax burden decreases for all of us.”
Milligan said he hopes to persuade Republican candidates to run for office under the broad goals of cutting taxes and stopping tax increases, improving highways to promote economic development, and finding ways to more efficiently spend tax dollars on education.
“That is just something near and dear to my heart, and I hope to be able to get the current legislators and candidates to maybe buy in on that. Again, it’s very basic,” he said.
This year, the Democraticdominated Legislature approved about $ 200 million a year in tax cuts and bolstered state funding for the public schools. Last week, the state Supreme Court ruled that the state is providing an adequate and equitable education to public school students, ending a 15-year-old lawsuit.
Milligan said it’s a legitimate goal for the GOP to strive to increase its number of House seats from 25 to 30 in next year’s elections. Republicans lost several close races to Democrats last November, he noted.
He said he hasn’t ruled out running next year for the District 29 seat, which is held by Johnson, who is barred from seeking re-election under term limits.
Gwatney, a former state senator, said Republicans will have a hard time winning 30 House seats in next year’s election.
“At the end of the day, [Milligan ] is going to have to deal with a popular Democratic governor, whose agenda Arkansans identify with, and people are going to want to be part of Gov. Beebe’s team,” said Gwatney.
Milligan said that Beebe is a talented and experienced politician.
“If you give me a $ 900 million surplus, I probably could make things look pretty good,” he said, referring to the state’s projected surplus of $ 919 million by the end of this month.
Milligan said Beebe enjoyed “a great honeymoon” in this year’s legislative session. “Next time around will be a little different story. We’ll find the real capabilities of Gov. Beebe probably the second time around,” he said.
Beebe replied that it’s a challenge to be governor and vowed to “meet the needs of the people. We will underpromise and overdeliver just like we have and restore the faith of the people [in state government ].”
Gwatney said the state Democratic Party’s No. 1 priority next year is re-electing U. S. Sen. Mark Pryor and U. S. Reps. Marion Berry, Mike Ross and Vic Snyder.
Milligan said he’s talked to several possible candidates for Pryor’s seat so far.
He declined to take a stance on President Bush’s latest immigration bill.
“That is between the president and Congress, and I am just going to let them hash it out and work it out,” Milligan said. “I just think that is something for probably smarter people than me to figure out. It is a tough situation either way, but something definitely needs to be done.”
He said he’s “150 percent” behind Bush on the war in Iraq.
“At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001 ], and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country,” Milligan said.
He said he’s not supporting any particular Republican presidential candidate in next year’s primary now that he’s the party chairman, though he contributed to Huckabee’s presidential campaign before he was elevated to the chairmanship.
“I am happy for any of them that are putting their name on the line and running,” he said, “and I certainly wish Gov. Huckabee the very, very best.”

The main goal of organic agriculture is to farm in ways that do not harm the environment, while there is no such motive for most non-organic farms.
· Buying organic flowers helps support local organic farming communities and organizations, which often have charitable, philanthropic motives for selling their flowers.
· Organic flowers, according to many people, last longer than non-organic ones.
· On a spiritual, holistic level, organic flowers have been farmed in such ways that they retain the essence of flowers, as Mother Nature intended them to have.
· Organic flowers are a natural part of a healthy, natural lifestyle.
· Pesticides and other toxic chemicals used on flowers affect the health of farm workers and florists. The toxic chemicals spread onto the clothes and into the bodies of farm workers and their children. Florists who handle non-organic flowers have been known to develop dermatitis on their hands.
· According to an article on newdream.org, studies have shown that 50 % of workers in the Costa Rica flower industry have symptoms of pesticide poisoning. Areas surrounding flower farms there have higher miscarriage and birth defect rates than do other areas.
· The toxic chemicals used on flower farms poison groundwater and the soil. These chemicals also become part of the food chain, as animals such as birds will eat the sprayed plants. In the course of their seasonal migrations, these birds will spread these chemicals globally.
· Through evaporation, toxic pesticides and fertilizers that are sprayed on flower farms end up in the atmosphere. They then travel to other global areas to fall as rain or snow.
· Every flower counts: Increasing sales of certified organic flowers gives the market notice that more organic flowers need to be grown, which makes more flower farms convert to using organic agricultural methods.

The world's population is 6,525,170,264 (July 2006 est.) The birth rate is estimated at 20.05 births/1,000 population and the death rate at 8.67 deaths/1,000 population.
That gives us 358,192 births and 154,889 deaths as a daily average.

How to Make Your Own One-way Mirror
Nitrate of Silver (pure) . . . . . . . . 40 grains
Nitrate of Silver (pure) . . . . . . . . 32 grains
Distilled Water . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 pint
Ammonia, 26% . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . To be used as directed.
Take one pint of distilled water, pour 4 ounces of this into a glass, and into this put 40 grains of Nitrate of Silver. Dissolve the Nitrate of Silver thoroughly by stirring the water with glass strip (no spoon, or stick, or metal should be used). When it is all thoroughly dissolved, take your medicine dropper and drop 26% Ammonia Water into it one drop at a time; at first it will turn dark; keep dropping the ammonia until it becomes clear again, which will generally take about thirty drops; stopping the addition as soon as it clears.
Very often after dropping 30 drops of Ammonia, it does not clear. In that case stir the solution slowly with your left hand and continue dropping the ammonia with the hand, one drop at a time until it does clear, which it will generally do after dropping a few more times. If after dropping seven drops more it does not clear (which takes 37 drops in all) do not drop any more Ammonia, as you are apt to spoil the solution.
Then add 32 grains of the Nitrate of Silver, additional. Dissolve by stirring with your glass strip. When it is all dissolved, pour the mixture back into the pint of water first measured out. Let it stand for one hour or more to allow the sediment to settle on the bottom. Then filter the solution through white blotting paper; this blotting paper you should put into your funnel, cone-shaped so that the solution will have to pass through it before it can enter the bottle (any druggist can show you how to fold filter paper). Put the funnel into the neck of the bottle and proceed to pour the solution into the funnel. In this way the solution passes through the blotting paper before it gets into the bottle, which is called filtering. After the solution is filtered into the bottle it should look like clear water. Cork bottle tightly, and keep in a cool dark place and label it No. 1 solution.
Solution No. 2:
24 grains of Rochelle Salts
25 grains of Nitrate of Silver (pure)
1 pint of Distilled Water
Take one pint of warm distilled water and pour it into a porcelain lined vessel, put it on the stove, and then put 24 grains of Rochelle Salts into it, and let this boil strongly for about one minute, and then add 25 grains of Nitrate of Silver, and let it boil for five minutes longer, take it form the stove and let it stand one hour or longer to allow the sediment to settle. As soon as the solution is cool it is best to pour it out of the porcelain lined vessel into some glass vessel or other porcelain lined vessel, as the vessel that you boiled this solution in will be quite dirty. When it is allowed to settle in another vessel the solution will be much clearer when you go to filter it. You want to bottle this solution just the same way as you do the No. 1 solution and label this one No. 2 solution.
Note: This solution will boil away a little when preparing it, but do not add any more water to it.
HOW TO SILVER MIRRORS:
In the first place a clean room should be used for the work. Place the glass on a level surface and bank the sides to prevent the solution running off, or place in a plating bath tube. It is not necessary that you should have a steam table in order to make good mirrors. By having your room at a temperature of 85 to 100 degrees F and using warm distilled water to rinse and level your glass with, you can easily get your glass up to the temperature of 90 to 100 degrees F., which will cause the silver to precipitate. The glass to be silvered must be thoroughly cleaned as the least speck of dust, grease, dirt or finer marks will show and cause you trouble. Place wooden wedges under the corners of the glass having warm distilled water on the glass and change the wedges under it until the water lays in an even depth all over the glass; this is to warm the glass and get it even. When you have the glass warm and level, raise one side or end level, raise one side or end and gently let all the water run off, now lay the glass gently back in the same place. Then pour No. 1 and No. 2 Silvering solutions into your traduate glass or glass pitcher in equal parts; stir them as quickly as possible with your glass strip, and then pour them onto the glass by first starting at the center and letting them flow out, then start at one corner and keep going around in a circular way until the entire surface of the glass is covered, and let the solution lay on it in an even layer. Let the solutions stand on the glass for about 30 minutes; then tip the glass on one corner on end and drain off the solution - drain all that will run off; rinse the glass coating off thoroughly with distilled water, and stand glass on one end to drain and dry. When dry apply backing paint.
If the silver coating is not heavy enough it needs a second coat, which you can do by pouring on the solutions as you did the first coat, after the first coat has been rinsed off with distilled water and allowed to drain for a few minutes. Do not let the first coat get dry before putting on the second coat.
You will get a much heavier coating of silver by putting the bottles which contain your solutions into hot water a few minutes before you mix and use them.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR GLASS:
The best way to do this is by taking some polishing Rouge in powdered form, the same as jewelers use for polishing silverware, or powdered prepared Whiting which you can get at any drug store. Take the Rouge or Whiting, and put into a bag of two or three thicknesses of bed ticking or cotton flannel and sew this up; then put the bag into water to soak up. Make a polisher by taking a piece of wood 4 by 4 inches and about 9 inches long and bore a hole in each end and near the top to take a broom handle, the handles should be about 4 inches long on each end of your polisher, so as to allow you a good hold.
Then get some felt about one inch thick; if possible to get - use the felt that harness makers use for padding harness - which is about one inch thick, as it is the best to use. Then screw the felt onto the bottom of the polisher, with brass screws. Be sure that the screws are counter-sunk, so that they will not come in contact with your glass when you are polishing it and scratch it.
Once the felt is fastened on, put the polisher into water and let it soak. When polishing and cleansing your glass all you have to do is to take the bag from water, and squeeze a little of the Rouge or Whiting upon the glass; then take your polisher from the water, and with both hands take the polisher by the handles and proceed to polish the glass to the edges. This will take about 10 minutes. When glass is polished, rinse off with distilled water until it is perfectly clean.
To make good mirrors you want to use a good grade of glass. The German or American Plate, either double or single, are the best cheaper grades to use, as they are well polished and free form defects. If your local dealer does not handle this glass he can easily get it for you. The Pittsburg Plate Glass Co., 622 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA is a very good firm to do business with. They have branch offices in most all the larger cities - see classified phone book.
HOW TO MAKE BACKING PAINT:
The very best backing paint that you can use is made by taking equal parts of White Demer Varnish and Asphaltum Varnish and mixing. If it is too heavy to work freely, add a little turpentine. Apply this paint to the silver coating as soon as it is dry, with a camel's hair brush as lightly as possible - as the silver coating can easily be rubbed off. One coat is enough, but if you wish to apply a second coat you can do so before the first coat gets thoroughly dry.
HOW TO REMOVE OLD BACKING PAINT AND SILVER
For removing old backing paint, take strong lye(*NOTE) and put it in a little water, and pour this on the old paint while the mirror is in a level position; and let it stand until the paint becomes soft; then take a small mop and mop it up. Sometimes the paint is a little hard to remove, in which case you can take a strong piece of cardboard and scrape it off by grasping the cardboard in both hands, and pushing forward with enough pressure to cause the cardboard to go between the paint and the glass. Another way is to buy a can of Boston or other kind of paint and varnish remover, and use according to directions. If the silver still sticks to the glass, pour undiluted nitric acid on it and let stand until the back can easily be removed with a mop or rag. Then clean your glass as directed.
ONE-WAY OR X-RAY MIRRORS
These mirrors can be made in any one of three ways.
The ordinary mirroring solution is diluted from 50% to 75% with distilled water.
In making the mirroring solution use 1/2 to 3/4 less Silver Nitrate and Rochelle Salts, but do not reduce the amount of water used.
The ordinary mirroring solution is used but let it set to deposit only half as long as you do ordinary mirroring, and pour off the balance of the water. If a mirror is placed under the glass that is being silvered, on an angle, the reflections of the results of precipitation will be clearly shown and you can tell when to discard the water on the glass and also note the transparency.
When silvered, if held up to the face, it can be looked through from the front, seeing everything in front of it clearly, but to anyone on the other side or front of the mirror, it looks like just an ordinary mirror showing their image and they are unable to see your features at the back.
When silvering is dry, varnish with good transparent spar varnish, using a thin coat with a soft haired brush. Collodion thinned with acetone is also used for backing. If either of these can be put on with a spray gun it will be much better and danger of scratching on the thin coat of silver is reduced or eliminated altogether. For greater safety and durability, place a glass of the same size over the mirror back. This can be held in a frame with quarter round or smaller stock fastened with brads or long thin screws.
This type of mirror has been and still is in use in large hotels, institutions, roadhouses, blind pigs, secret societies and lodges, night clubs, cars, by secret police, detectives, etc. A pan of this type mirror is placed in a panel of the front door. The visitor sees only an ordinary mirror staring him in the face, but the one on the other side of the door can see through it and tell who it is without being seen or opening the door. This way many police raids on blind pigs, gambling dens, houses of vice, etc. have been thwarted. Usually a curtain or blind is pulled down over the glass from the inside so that patrons won't notice it and talk out of turn.
SIMPLE METHOD OF RESILVERING DAMAGED MIRRORS
Pour upon a sheet of tin foil three drams of quicksilver to the square foot of foil. Rub smartly with a piece of buckskin until the foil becomes brilliant. Lay the glass upon a flat table face downward, place the foil upon the damaged portion of the glass, lay a sheet of paper over the foil, and place upon it a block of wood or a piece of marble with a perfectly flat surface, put upon it sufficient weight to press it down tight; let it remain in this position a few hours. The foil will adhere to the glass.

E. J. Dionne, Jr. (Washington Post op-ed page on 5 October [2]) discusses the morality of pacifism, the deep religious belief of many who uphold it, and the quiet light that they shine for the rest of us.
The irony is that as I became ever more convinced of the problems of pacifism, I developed an enormous respect for individual pacifists and for rigorous pacifist thinkers. These were people who understood the seriousness of individual participation in war and asked themselves hard questions about their own responsibilities. I was glad pacifists existed, even as I was glad they were not making government policy.
The point of this reverie is to offer a hope that as a nation, we do not demonize pacifists in the coming months and years as we wage war on terrorism -- a war I support.
-----------------
ROMA - On February 18, three days after the pacifist parades had invaded the streets of the world, Vatican Secretary of State Angelo Cardinal Sodano summed up in a few words what he himself has defined as "the position of the Holy See." He made his remarks in an interview with the newspaper of the Italian bishops´ conference, "Avvenire:"
"The Holy See is not pacifist at any cost, because it acknowledges the right of nations to legitimate self-defense. One should say rather that the Holy See is always a peacemaker, working intensely to prevent conflicts from arising. That is so also with the present case. The Pope and all his colleagues will not cease to call upon the disputing parties to avoid the outbreak of war. The Catholic bishops also take this line."
This is the situation as outlined by the Church. But within this situation there is room granted to the intelligence of the faithful and to their reflections on war and peace, as applied to the concrete case of the imminent attack on Iraq.
Three very recent additions to these reflections are presented here, in addition to nine others already listed on this website.
1. The first is by Vittorio E. Parsi, a professor of international relations at the Catholic University of Milan. It is an interview published in the February 2003 edition of "Presenza," the university´s magazine. What makes the forcefully concrete positions formulated there more interesting is that Parsi is the principle editorialist on Iraq for "Avvenire," the newspaper of the Italian bishops´ conference. Here is the link:
2. The second text, which also takes a journalistic tack, is by Luca Diotallevi, from the diocese of Terni and Narni, a professor of sociology at the University of Rome III and a member of the Italian bishops´ fundraising committee. It is brief and didactic. It was published by "Corriere dell´Umbria" on February 15. Here is the link:
3. The third text is the most demanding. It takes the form of an essay and is printed in its entirety here. It is very current, having been written expressly for "www.chiesa" by Pietro De Marco, a specialist in religious geopolitics and a teacher at the University of Florence and at the Florentine Theological Studio.
In his analysis, De Marco challenges Catholic and non-Catholic pacifists at the core of their convictions. He criticizes the error of minimizing the danger to the West posed by international terrorism and by states like Iraq. He also makes an original analysis of the "crisis" of bodies like the UN and the European Union, faced with the world domination of the United States. From here, he makes his conclusions - with an appraisal of the role of the Catholic Church. Happy reading!
