ANTON IN ICELAND

The great Anton Alfred Newcombe is working on his first full album in 4 years (and his first new recordings in 2 years). Anton is living and working in Iceland. Most days he updates his myspace profile with new photos. There's something about these pictures that's tranquil, focused, meditative, creative while also being wild, frightening, unhinged and yet not without humour. Simply, the sensibility and presentation is very fascinating. Here are some of my favorites (in hronological order no less)...

Also, here's a note Anton wrote regarding his recent activities...

hej!

having a great time in iceland, the album is almost complete, have 12 songs and hope to record more.waiting to find girls that sing in icelandic, and will do another session on sunday if all goes well.i plan to post it all online as work in progress.i had planned to have a party on the 29th for everyone as it is my birthday but may need to go back to uk for buisness.i will update asap.

that's all for now.
much love from the land of the midnight sun.

iceland o7 "get higher than the satellites..."

And just so you know the get higher that the satellites refers to a post he made regarding the US using army satellites to observe US citizens to "help stop crime"

I hope youre all having a wonderful, inspired day

Some company in Madison (???) sent me an e-mail telling me I should apply there. Crazy.

hello all, (rich made the previous comment in my name)

jackie and d, the apple barn is having apple fest sept. 29/30... we should go then. i went there last weekend--no one was there! i mean, there was a woman at the cash register, but i guess they don't get people unless there is some sort of even or unless it is further into the fall. i couldn't get any cider or pie or donuts unfortunately, but i did get my salsa. i bought almost $50 worth. yum yum yum.

anyway, let me know if that weekend is good! call my cell if you need to get in touch as we're currently at the hampton inn in westchester. god knows how long we'll have to stay here.

i can't go that weekend because i have friends coming into town that i never see. but don't let little ol' me stop you guys from going to apple fest.

we don't have to go that weekend, jackie. i was just throwing it out there. i don't think it was apple fest when we went last year, and it was still fun. we will just have to wait until (obviously) after sept. 5, because i think that's when they officially start apple season and will have more than jarred stuff in the store (in other words, caramel apples, pies, cider, etc). but let's not wait too long!!!

well if we want to go on a saturday, the 8th and the 22nd work best for me.

we can wait till the second or third weekend in october, jackie... pumpkin picking is just as fun!

Jackie said...

it doesn't matter too much to me because i'm mostly interested in the wine and salsa, haha.

but i just like looking at all the pumpkins and gourds cuz im a nerd.

richard said...

If I may add my ten cents, id prefer apple picking

Jackie said...

well i dont want to pick pumpkins, i just want to look at the ones they already have picked. like they had that big cart of them right by the road, but honestly, i can live without pumpkins.

come online... i'm deathly bored.

The last weekend in September, as it stands at this moment, is out for me. I think my mother will be in town then, though we haven't really planned or even finalized anything due to the complete drought of affordable hotels on the northside of Chicago.

It's definitely one of my favorite BJM albums. I remember the videos he put out throughout the process - the one where they spraypainted stuff on the walls.
