how was the birthday dinner?
Happy birthday Tim!
thanks guys! dinner was great last night: La Scarola on Grand ave. still my fav italian in chicago (incidentally some amazing veg dishes there). they are kind of "old fashioned" with such crazy attention to the details: such as the marinara that comes with calamari will make you sing and the portabello mushrooms in my entree were seasoned so well they were more zesty than the sausage! and my family took me to cafe 28(cuban) this evening which was also wonderful; they turn mohitos into an art form.
is there a lot of veg food at cuban places? i should have gone while i was living in florida, but i just never went. i went to a place in new york that was amazing and was always looking for something similar to try again.
well Cafe 28 is mostly porkchops, stewed and slow roasted beef. But there are quite a few lovely seafood dishes like almond encrusted halibut and coconut shrimp.
well i don't eat fish, so perhaps that particular cuban restaurant is not for me.
or maybe cuban food is not for me! c'est la vie.
yeah maybe not.
Disc One and Two of the next Falling Deep are (more or less) sequenced! Discs 3, 4, and 5 here we come!
awe just five?!
well i can't wait to get the mysterious one i've been missing before the other 5.... because then i won't be out of sequence. hmmmmm???
Jackie, there are some Cuban places that will cater to vegetarians. I'm pretty sure that Cafe 28 has some veg items on their menu even though I haven't been. If I'm remembering correctly from their website (though I last looked at it ages ago), they have polenta, which is pretty much the most miraculous food ever. And fuck eating, just drink mojitos if everything has meat!I've heard excellent things about La Scarola from way too many sources. The risotto sounds too fucking good to be true.Tim, I'm glad you had a wonderful 33rd.
6 is maybe more realistic
Im sure by wednesday it'll be the full e-i-g-h-t.the risotto at scarola is one of the greatest dishes Ive ever had.
we should go sometime
the cafe 28 dinner menu has some veg things on it. it looks like an interesting place. i remember going to a cuban restaurant in miami when we were stuck there because o'hare was shut down... and they didn't have vegetarian food, but i would try this place.
oh, and we should try that pizza place that tony went to on the chicago show. burt's place or something like that. the pizza they were eating looked amazing.
yeah that looked great. what was it morton grove?
yeah. i tried loooking for a website or online menu but found nothing.
Last night a potential 7th disc got created and then systematically un-created. Six discs it is.
I can't find a website for Burt's either, but he also started Pequods...I don't know if the menus are similar, but Pequods is pretty good.
whitestripes perform tonight on what is apparently the final episode of conan obrien.
