I would say Woman in the Dunes probably!

Have you ever seen Onibaba? I got really into Japaense folklore for awhile and would watch any movie having to do with those themes that I could get my hands on.

I was obsessed with woman in the dunes for two years! have you ever seen Shindo's Onibaba? Ive always thought of those two as sister movies

best japanese folklore that Ive seen:Mizoguchi's Ugetsu. I saw it in my parents cold dank basement during one of the many horrid heatwaves of this summer--i still have dreams of that.

Yeah, I wrote the same thing above, haha.

I haven't but I'll add it to my long list of movies to watch.

hah! you sure did, thats a confirmation!! Ive been nimbly stepping towards another Shindo: Kuroneko but am intimidated a lil. whats next for you?

The Pitfall still looks like a Duchamp sculpture.

Well, I found the movie you suggested in full on Youtube so I'll check that out soon. And I've been meaning to watch When a Woman Ascends the Stairs.

Kuroneko sounds really great too. I am very fond of the Japanese horror genre so any other movies you want to suggest would be wonderful.

never heard of that one. thanks!

Do you have a Facets membership? When I'm not desperately broke it's the first thing I would like to invest in especially since I live so close.

absolutely and ditto! I was just going on about these kinds of movies to kate about a month ago. It was really that tall grass in Onibaba that made me realize that this was a recurring idea. great to know someone else is dipping in at the same time!

Ive had one a number of times but not currently. I recommend Odd Obsession on Milwaukee ave. very very dense, dizzying! no membership required. and they usually have great discounts and massively enthusiastic/informative non condescending employees you will love it.

I've been meaning to go there too. I'm glad to get a recommendation though.

How's this for the most random reference ever--
(copied from the comment section of the review of an episode of the tv show 'Girls' in av club:

John Lennon was very vocal in that he never shot heroin, he would only snort or smoke it. For proof, listen to the bootleg session with Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney (big deal as it's the only recording of Lennon with McCartney post-Beatles) where he offers anyone "a toot and a snort" or some shit. It's cocaine, but still. Powder is powder for him.
I'm off base.

Random as fuck! And pretty hilarious.

True though, for some reason, John always wanted it to be known that he never shot up. Not sure why he wanted that out there.

Now, Jesse Ed Davis claims that they in fact shot up with John Bonham, but he also claims Lennon and him did a gig in Hawaii in 1979...so yeah, he's not exactly reliable.

Toot And A Snore - Forever!

Do you like Girls?

We just watched a preview for a documentary called The Imposter. It looks so fuckin good. We're going to watch it now. I hope it's amazing.

Mr Bigpants Cock (of the) Walk said...

Yes rich, I kind of assumed that was obvious by now.
